The sovereignty of God is over all things.
“When you go through a trial, the sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which you lay your head.”
C.H. Spurgeon
In the midst of suffering it can be difficult to accept the sovereignty of God in all things. As we consider Psalm Two, it’s my hope that you will be encouraged that although the nations rage, you are not alone. You can find peace in God.
The first thing I’d like to encourage you to do, is lean on God’s word and His strength when you’re feeling fearful or weak. Psalm Two teaches, “Blessed are those who take refuge in the Lord.”
Throughout the Psalms we see real people, just like us, sharing their experiences of joy and weeping, peace and struggle. We all go through seasons like this. In the midst of it all the blessing is in making the Lord your refuge. Under His eternal covering we receive His comfort and love. You can read more about resting in God here.
The second thing I want you to be encouraged with is the sovereignty of God. He is over all things.
I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.
Isaiah 45:7 NIV
He has given mankind free will. So much so that we read in this Psalm about the “nations raging against Him and His Anointed One”. The “nations” do things in their own strength and without the counsel of God. And yet, He is in control. and He warns them of His wrath to come.
If you don’t have access to the bible, or to the Bible App, here is Psalm Two, from the KJV for you to read below. I’ve used the WEB on this post because it is in the public domain. In the video, I am reading from my NASB study bible, which I love.
Psalm 2 World English Bible (WEB)
Why do the nations rage,
and the peoples plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth take a stand,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against Yahweh, and against his Anointed, saying,
Let’s break their bonds apart,
and cast their cords from us.?
He who sits in the heavens will laugh.
The Lord will have them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his anger,
and terrify them in his wrath:
?Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion.?
I will tell of the decree:
Yahweh said to me, You are my son.
Today I have become your father.
Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance,
the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron.
You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Now, therefore, be wise, you kings.
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve Yahweh with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Give sincere homage to the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish on the way,
for his wrath will soon be kindled.
Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

If this Psalm speaks to you, you may want to take time to read through this Psalm again. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of this scripture to you. Pray through each verse and then meditate on the words:
Blessed are all those who take refuge in Him.
